S.J.Res. 81 · Foreign Trade and International Finance
A joint resolution terminating the national emergency declared to impose duties on articles imported from Brazil.
Introduced Sep 18, 2025 · Held at the desk.
What does this mean?

In July 2025, President Trump declared a national emergency involving Brazil and used it to slap an extra 40% tariff (an import tax) on many goods coming from that country, though he left out things like aircraft parts, wood pulp, precious metals, energy products, and fertilizers. This resolution would cancel that emergency declaration, which would also end the 40% tariff tied to it. If passed, businesses and consumers who buy Brazilian goods covered by the tariff would stop paying that extra 40% charge on those imports.
