S.J.Res. 37 · Foreign Trade and International Finance
A joint resolution terminating the national emergency declared to impose duties on articles imported from Canada.
Introduced Mar 11, 2025 · Held at the desk.
What does this mean?

In February 2025, President Trump declared a national emergency to justify slapping extra tariffs (taxes on imported goods) on products coming from Canada—an additional 25% on most Canadian goods, and an additional 10% specifically on Canadian energy products like oil and gas. This resolution would cancel that emergency declaration, which would end those extra tariffs. If passed, businesses and consumers who buy Canadian goods or energy would no longer pay the added tariff costs on those imports, effectively reversing that particular trade policy back to what it was before February 2025.
