Earlier this year, Medicare (the federal health insurance program mainly for people 65 and older) started a test program in six states—New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and Washington—where private companies would use AI-type technology to review certain medical claims before treatment and decide whether Medicare should pay for them, similar to how private Medicare Advantage plans already operate. These companies would get paid based on how much money they saved by denying or limiting claims. This resolution would cancel that program, meaning it could not continue, and patients and doctors in those six states would not have to go through this new company-run pre-approval process for the services it covered.
