S.J.Res. 10 · Emergency Management
A joint resolution terminating the national emergency declared with respect to energy.
Introduced Feb 3, 2025 · Failed of passage in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 47 - 52. Record Vote Number: 95. (consideration: CR S1364, S1367-1390)
What does this mean?

In January 2025, the President declared a national emergency over energy, claiming the U.S. doesn't have enough energy supply and infrastructure (things like oil, natural gas, coal, uranium, and power-generating resources) to meet the country's needs. That declaration gave federal agencies special emergency powers to fast-track energy projects—like approving new drilling or pipeline construction more quickly and skipping some normal environmental review steps—especially in the Northeast, West Coast, and Alaska. It also told the Department of Defense to check whether it can reliably get and move energy supplies, particularly in the Northeast and West Coast, and allowed the military to use emergency construction authority to fix any problems found. This resolution would cancel that emergency declaration, which would end those special fast-track powers and remove the basis for the military's emergency construction authority related to energy.
