S. 629 · Agriculture and Food
Emergency Conservation Program Improvement Act of 2025
Introduced Feb 19, 2025 · Became law
What does this mean?

Farmers and forest landowners who lose crops, land, or equipment like fencing to disasters (floods, storms, wildfires) can get government help paying to fix or replace them — and this bill makes that help arrive sooner and cover more. Right now they can only get a small upfront payment (25%) before doing repairs, mostly just for fencing; under this bill they could get up to 75% of the cost paid in advance for replacing damaged property and 50% in advance for repairs, covering more than just fences. It also gives people 180 days instead of 60 to actually spend the money once they receive it, and it lets people qualify for aid even if a wildfire was technically human-caused, as long as it spread naturally or was started by the federal government itself.
