If you buy health insurance through your state's marketplace (the website where people without job-based coverage can shop for and buy health plans) and get financial help paying for it, this bill keeps that help at today's more generous levels for three more years, through 2028. Right now, temporary rules let people qualify for this help even if they earn more than 400% of the poverty line, and they also reduce how much of your income you're expected to spend on premiums before the assistance kicks in — without this bill, those temporary rules would expire after 2025, income limits would return, and many people would get smaller discounts or lose eligibility altogether. This bill simply locks in the current, more generous version of that financial help for another three years instead of letting it end.
