S. 2806 · Economics and Public Finance
Eliminate Shutdowns Act
Introduced Sep 15, 2025 · Motion by Senator Thune to reconsider the vote by which cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 2806 was not invoked (Record Vote No. 533) made in Senate.
Amendment adopted
Sen. Paul, Rand [R-KY] (R-KY)

What does this mean?

If Congress misses its deadline to pass the annual spending bills that keep federal agencies funded, this law would automatically keep the government running at the same funding levels as the previous year, instead of letting it shut down. That means federal workers would keep getting paid, government offices would stay open, and services like national parks, passport processing, and federal benefits would continue without interruption while lawmakers keep negotiating. In effect, it removes the shutdown itself as a possible outcome of a funding standoff, since money would keep flowing automatically until new spending bills are finalized.
