Midnight Rules Relief Act
Introduced Jan 3, 2025 · Received in the Senate and Read twice and referred to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
What does this mean?

When a president is about to leave office, federal agencies often rush out a bunch of new regulations in their final months — things like environmental rules, workplace safety requirements, or consumer protections. Congress already has a process to cancel these "midnight" regulations after the new president and Congress take over, but currently lawmakers have to vote separately on each individual rule they want to undo, one at a time. This bill would let Congress instead lump many of these end-of-term regulations together and reject them all with a single vote, making it faster and easier to wipe out a batch of last-minute rules at once.
