H.R. 776 · Animals
Nutria Eradication and Control Reauthorization Act of 2025
Introduced Jan 28, 2025 · Received in the Senate and Read twice and referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
What does this mean?

Nutria are large invasive rodents that burrow into wetlands and destroy marsh vegetation, causing erosion and habitat loss. This bill extends, through 2030, a federal program that gives states money to trap or control nutria populations and repair marshland the animals have damaged. In practice, this mainly affects states dealing with nutria problems (such as those along the Gulf Coast and Chesapeake Bay), which can keep applying for this funding rather than losing access to it once the current authorization expires.
