H.R. 695 · Armed Forces and National Security
Medal of Honor Act
Introduced Jan 23, 2025 · Became law
What does this mean?

Living Medal of Honor recipients — veterans given the nation's highest award for battlefield bravery — currently receive a special monthly pension from the government, and this raises the amount they get. It also sets a rule that if that pension is bumped up for cost-of-living reasons in a given year, it can't get a second increase that same year. Separately, veterans who live in nursing homes paid for by Medicaid (the government health program for low-income people) and who have no spouse or children are capped at receiving just $90 a month in pension — this bill keeps that low cap in place for about a year longer than originally planned, through January 2033 instead of November 2031.
