H.R. 4758 · Energy
Homeowner Energy Freedom Act
Introduced Jul 25, 2025 · Received in the Senate and Read twice and referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
What does this mean?

This bill would end three federal Energy Department programs: one that gave rebates to lower- and middle-income households to help pay for switching to electric appliances like heat pumps and stoves, one that funded training for contractors who specialize in making homes more energy-efficient, and one that helped state and local governments update their building codes to require more energy-efficient construction. Any money set aside for these programs that hasn't been spent yet would be taken back. In practice, this means households who might have used these rebates to lower the cost of electrifying their homes, contractors who could have received training funding, and local governments working on energy-efficient building standards would no longer have access to this federal support.
