H.R. 4690 · Energy
Reliable Federal Infrastructure Act
Introduced Jul 23, 2025 · Received in the Senate and Read twice and referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
What does this mean?

This bill removes a rule that would have required new or majorly renovated federal government buildings to stop using fossil fuels (like natural gas for heating) by 2030. Until the Department of Energy — the federal agency that sets building efficiency rules — writes new standards, federal buildings can keep using fossil fuels as they always have. It also makes sure that green building certification programs, which are rating systems builders use to label a building as environmentally efficient, can't deny a federal building that label just because it still runs on fossil fuels.
