H.R. 4553 · Economics and Public Finance
Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2026
Introduced Jul 21, 2025 · Read the second time. Placed on Senate Legislative Calendar under General Orders. Calendar No. 156.
What does this mean?

This bill sets the federal budget for 2026 covering water infrastructure, energy programs, and nuclear security. It funds the Army Corps of Engineers' work on dams, levees, and waterways that protect communities from flooding and keep rivers navigable for shipping, as well as the Bureau of Reclamation's water projects that supply irrigation and drinking water in western states. It also pays for the Department of Energy's activities, including research into renewable energy and the electric grid, maintaining the nation's emergency oil reserves, managing nuclear waste, and the National Nuclear Security Administration's work maintaining the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile. Additionally, it funds the agencies that regulate electricity markets and oversee the safety of nuclear power plants, meaning the money in this bill affects everything from your electric bill and water supply to job funding in these sectors and the safety oversight of nuclear facilities near you.
