National Wildlife Refuge System Invasive Species Strike Team Act of 2025
Introduced Jun 27, 2025 · Received in the Senate and Read twice and referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
What does this mean?

The National Wildlife Refuge System is a network of federally protected lands and waters, run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (the federal agency that manages wildlife and their habitats), where animals and plants are conserved. Right now, the Fish and Wildlife Service already runs a program that sends teams in each of its regions to deal with invasive species, meaning plants, animals, or other organisms that aren't native to an area and can cause problems there. The teams work with government and private partners on these problems in and around the refuges, but the program has not had its own formal legal footing. This bill would write that program into federal law and require the agency to report to Congress on what the teams are doing and how far along they are in tackling invasive species that pose a major concern to the environment, human health, or the economy.
