The U.S. Forest Service, the agency that manages national forests, would be required to sell about 14 acres of land (including the rights to any minerals underneath) inside the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin to a specific private company, Tony's Wabeno Redi-Mix, LLC. Before that can happen, the government has to get the land officially appraised to set a fair market price, and the company then has 180 days after that appraisal to make its purchase offer and pay full price plus any related costs. Separately, the Department of the Interior, the federal agency that oversees public lands, would have to publish a report reviewing how the government currently handles approvals for companies wanting to mine stone, sand, and gravel on federal land elsewhere.
