H.R. 23 · International Affairs
Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act
Introduced Jan 3, 2025 · Cloture on the motion to proceed to the measure not invoked in Senate by Yea-Nay Vote. 54 - 45. Record Vote Number: 22. (CR S410)
Amendments adopted
Sen. Scott, Tim [R-SC] (R-SC)

Sen. Cruz, Ted [R-TX] (R-TX)

Sen. Paul, Rand [R-KY] (R-KY)

What does this mean?

This law targets the International Criminal Court, a body in The Hague that investigates and prosecutes individuals for war crimes and other serious international offenses. If that court tries to investigate, arrest, or prosecute Americans, or citizens of allied countries that also haven't joined the court, the U.S. president would be required to punish the foreign people involved by freezing their U.S. assets and banning them and their family members from getting visas to enter the country. It also cuts off all U.S. government funding to the court, immediately and going forward, meaning American tax dollars can no longer support its operations.
