H.R. 2215 · Public Lands and Natural Resources
Salem Maritime National Historical Park Redesignation and Boundary Study Act
Introduced Mar 18, 2025 · Became law
What does this mean?

Salem Maritime National Historic Site, a waterfront park in Massachusetts that preserves buildings and wharves tied to the region's colonial-era shipping and trade, would get a new official name: Salem Maritime National Historical Park. The Department of the Interior, the federal agency that oversees national parks, would also be required to study nearby land and buildings connected to maritime history, old coastal forts, and military sites to see whether they're worth adding to the park in the future. For now, nothing about public access or park boundaries actually changes — this just renames the site and sets up research into a possible expansion down the road.
