H.J.Res. 75 · Energy
Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Department of Energy relating to "Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for Commercial Refrigerators, Freezers, and Refrigerator-Freezers".
Introduced Mar 10, 2025 · Became law
What does this mean?

The Department of Energy (the federal agency that sets efficiency rules for appliances and equipment) had issued a new rule requiring commercial refrigerators, freezers, and refrigerator-freezers — the kind used in restaurants, grocery stores, and convenience stores — to meet stricter energy-efficiency standards starting in 2029. This resolution cancels that rule, meaning manufacturers of that equipment would not have to meet the new, tougher standards after all. Businesses that buy and use commercial refrigeration equipment would continue operating under the older efficiency requirements that were already in place before this rule was issued.
